From Inception to Success

I've been involved in numerous products that went from inception to a successful launch.

Social Media and Mobile Integration

I have assisted many customers in finding the most cost-effective way of integrating both social media and mobile into their marketing strategy. At FusionWare, I designed and executed a social media marketing campaign that within less than two months took us from where a Google search of what we considered relative terms did not show us up on any of the first 3 or 4 pages, to where we dominated the first page every time.

Extended Microsoft Dynamics CRM Incident Tracking to 3rd Party Service Provider

This consisted of allowing a user to indicate that a specific incident was to be processed through a third party on-demand provider of on-site services. This provider was accessed using web services to their cloud-based service. This began an asynchronous, complex, two-way workflow.

I was responsible for analyzing, architecting and documenting the relationships between these components, as well as actual implementation of the code that ran the solution. This was a combination of JavaScript and back-end C# assemblies.

I developed a mechanism that allowed us to reuse javascript libraries, loaded on-demand, by the CRM client browser.

Provided Architectural Guidance and Risk Solutions for Complex SharePoint Application

I was the Architect and chief troubleshooter for complex issues that arose for a complex SharePoint-based application that was being developed by Fusionware Corporation for a client.

Providing Complex Functionality for SharePoint/Reporting Services Solution

I was the Architect for a solution that involved taking database snapshots for historical and compliance purposes so these could be used in a reporting services environement. This involved complex custom workflow assemblies using Microsoft's Windows Workflow Foundation especially in the context of SharePoint Office Server.

Extending Open Source platforms like Drupal and osCommerce

I architected, designed, and helped develop solutions that extended open source content and eCommerce platforms to interact with customers' line of business systems.

FusionWare Direct ADO.NET and Reporting Services Providers

This consisted of an ADO.NET and Reporting Services Provider for .NET 1.1 and another pair for .NET 2.0. These had to be signed, configured for partial trust, and added to the Global Assembly Cache and the Machine Config file to ensure that they could work in an environment of partial trust.

FusionWare Integration Server

This is an XML-based B2B Integration Server written in Java. This server is an ESB that provides a full web services stack. I am the chief architect of this product. As part of this we provided the following connectors:

  • WebSphere MQ connector
  • RPG Program Call Connector
  • VLTrader Connector (EDI over Internet - AS2)
  • and others...

.NET-based ATM Packet Driver

Done on contract for a customer, this product allows up to 255 ATM machines to simultaneously queue up requests for a limited number of costly legacy database connections. It uses the .NET asynchronous methods for queuing, and uses semaphores to control the resource utilization.

eTools ODBC, JDBC, OleDB, JavaAdapter and DAS

This is a series of specialized tools to provider industry-standards based access to non-FNF, non-relational legacy multivalued (PICK) databases. It includes a full-featured ANSI-92 compatible SQL engine and mapping layer. I was the primary architect for these products (with lots of early help from other founders of the company, including Antoon Houben, John Hunter, and a guest appearance from Jim Tivy to help with the parser).

Selected parts of this product is shipped with every Dealer Management System distributed by Reynolds and Reynolds, who claim to provide 60% of the Dealer Management Systems in North America. eTools is also used by Elizabeth Arden Salons, the US Army and many other companies around the world.

PK Harmony, PC-Harmony, PC-Link, MAI-Link, Thoroughbred-Link, Wang-Link...

I was development manager for this series of products, happened to be involved in the first genesis of all these products, and was the architect of the flavour that was developed for multivalued systems (PK Harmony). This product was distributed to most Libraries in North America, among other customers.
